You walk into the pool down wide steps, like a beach. Loungers stand in the shallow water, white cabanas line the edge, and the bar is right beside it. Old olive trees all around, so there is shade whenever you want it.

Breakfast is on the terrace from 8:00: honey from the island, olive oil, local cheese and yogurt, fruit in season and eggs the way you like them. From 12:00 the pool bar takes over, with coffee, fresh juice, a light lunch and cocktails as the sun goes down. For dinner, two tavernas are 2 minutes from the gate.

Kommeno is a green peninsula of villas and olive groves on the east coast, with small pebble coves at the bottom of the hill. Corfu Town and its Venetian old town are 20 minutes by car; the north-east coast, Paleokastritsa and Paxos are each a day out.
